Purpose

This document captures the seeding strategy demonstrated during the Andy Burnham / UK LVT viral moment (June 20-21, 2026). Use as a template whenever a UK LVT post goes viral: seed the comments early with top comments showing broad political support (conservative and labour) + key Georgist talking points.

Seeding Comments Posted (Follow-ups by CW)

These were posted as quote-tweets in the thread to seed talking points and demonstrate cross-partisan support:

1. Conservative / Right-wing Endorsement (Mark Littlewood)

Post: https://x.com/CommonWealth_ca/status/2068729167974187083

“UK Conservative PM advisor supports LVT.”

Quote-tweeting Mark Littlewood (former advisor to UK PM David Cameron) arguing against income tax in favour of land taxes.

  • Why it works: Shows LVT is NOT a left-wing idea. Neutralises the “Marxist/communist” attack vector head-on.

2. Nobel Economist Endorsement (Milton Friedman)

Post: https://x.com/CommonWealth_ca/status/2068728341847224501

“Many people coming to learn about the case for land value tax - and why it should replace more harmful taxes on your income and productivity.”

Quote-tweeting a 2023 Milton Friedman clip: “The least bad tax is the property tax on the unimproved value of land, the Henry George argument.”

  • Why it works: Milton Friedman is the patron saint of economic conservatives. Instantly inoculates against “communist” framing. Free-market credibility.

Core Objections to Pre-empt (from this thread)

These were the top hostile reply themes (by likes):

  1. “New tax, no spending cuts” - Assume it stacks on top of existing taxes. Counter: LVT should replace taxes on work.
  2. “Farmers will be destroyed” - Rural land/farming concern. Counter: agricultural exemptions are standard.
  3. “Asset-rich, cash-poor” - Pensioners/homeowners forced to sell. Counter: deferral mechanisms (pay on sale).
  4. “UK already has world’s highest property tax” - Confuses council tax/stamp duty with LVT. Counter: those tax buildings/transactions, not land value.
  5. “Marxist/Communist” - Framing attack. Counter: Friedman, Reagan-era economists, Conservatives all endorse it.

The Seeding Formula (for future viral UK LVT posts)

When a UK LVT post is going viral, seed the comments within the first 2-4 hours with:

  1. Conservative voice - Tory/Conservative politician, advisor, or economist endorsing LVT

    • Mark Littlewood (Cameron advisor)
    • Any current/former Tory backbencher who’s spoken positively on Georgism
  2. Free-market economist - Preferably someone the right trusts

    • Milton Friedman clip (saved above)
    • Adam Smith reference (“ground rents” in Wealth of Nations)
  3. “Replaces, doesn’t add” framing - Explicitly address the “new tax” fear

    • Key phrase: “shift taxes OFF work, ON to land”
  4. Cross-partisan framing - Labour + Tories + economists ALL agree

    • Burnham (Labour) + Littlewood (Tory) + Friedman (libertarian) = no partisan home to attack from

Key Talking Points (UK-specific)

  • Andy Burnham (Labour, Mayor of Greater Manchester): “We overtax people’s work”
  • Mark Littlewood (Conservative, Cameron advisor): For LVT, against income tax
  • Milton Friedman (libertarian economist): “The least bad tax is the property tax on the unimproved value of land”
  • LVT = tax the location value of land, not work, buildings, or improvements
  • Reduces land speculation / hoarding → more homes built → housing affordability
  • Collected by local government → can fund local services without income tax
  • Standard economic consensus: land is uniquely suited to taxation (inelastic supply)
